The Kingdom of the Heart by Habib ‘Umar Bin Ḥafīẓ Book Launch

The Kingdom of the Heart by Habib ‘Umar Bin Ḥafīẓ gives the reader a deeper understanding of the importance of cultivating the spiritual kingdom of the heart. This book shows the direct correlation between outward actions and the heart, giving us insights into how various actions impact the state of our hearts. Ultimately, it gives us a path to internalize the wisdom and purpose of acts of devotion, resulting in the purification of the heart and nearness to Allah ﷻ.

Alhamdulillah by the grace of Allah we hosted a Kingdom Of The Heart book lunch event at Al-Maqasid Friday July 19th.  Ustadh Amjad  introduced the book and gave a brief biography of the author Al Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah bless and protect him). It was an intimate, heartfelt event and Shaykh Yahya explained the importance of this work and asked that Allah bless everyone who was involved in bringing it to fruition and everyone who reads and benefits from it.

We were honored to have Shaykh Amin Muhammad in attendance and gave an emotional talk about the scholars and people of Hadramaut, Yemen and the impact of their Da’wa on the world.  It was a blessed event mashAllah and we ask Allah to accept.

LOVING THE BELOVED ﷺ

This weekly Majlis includes a recitation of the prophetic biography in poetry form followed by a counsel intended to connect the listener to the Prophet ﷺ and his teachings. The more we know about his life, character, and way, the more we will come to love and follow the one beloved to Allah.

The Prothetic Way - Yahya Rhodus

“It is the soft heart that is closest to Allah.”

We have complete guidance in the Prophet ﷺ, who exemplified the best of character and whose life serves as a perfect model for us to follow. His teachings and actions illuminate the path to righteousness, compassion, and a heart that is close to Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ said, “There is a piece of flesh in the body, if it becomes good (reformed), the whole body becomes good; but if it gets spoilt, the whole body gets spoilt, and that is the heart” (Sahih Bukhari)

Attaining Allah’s Mercy - Auzair Khilwati

Allah says in the Quran, “And My mercy encompasses all things.” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:156).

If all of humanity were to sit in their armchairs and ponder and reflect for years, for generations, for eons about how to attain Allah’s mercy and how to gain His good graces, they wouldn’t be able to do so through mere contemplation alone.

The path to Allah’s mercy is through the humble acknowledgment of our dependence on Him, the steadfast performance of our duties, and the relentless pursuit of good deeds. It is a journey of the heart, mind, and soul, seeking to align with His will and embody the principles of compassion, justice, and righteousness.

The Prophets Care for His Nation - Hasan Petrus

The care of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ manifests profoundly in the Akhira (Hereafter). We all know that on the Day of Judgment, when all of humanity will seek intercession from the Prophets, each Prophet will say, ‘nafsi, nafsi’ (myself, myself). But when they turn to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he will be the only one who says, ‘ummati, ummati’ (my nation, my nation), showing his unparalleled concern and love for his followers.

As Allah says in the Quran: “And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Quran 21:107)

JUMU’A KHUTBA

The weekly Jumu'a, or Friday, Congregational prayer is live streamed from Al-Maqasid from 12:15pm-1:10pm.

The People of The Reality of Tawhid - yahya rhodus

“The greatest reality in human history is Tawhid. Nothing has impacted humankind more than this meaning of Tawhid.”In this incredibly beneficial khutba, Amjad Tarsin explains what are righteous intentions, their fundamental importance in the deen, and how to make them, providing support from the Quran, Hadith, and quotes from great Imams of Islam.

In this khutba, Yahya Rhodus explains who are The People of The Reality of Tawhid (believing in One God), why we should seek to obtain this station, and the steps to achieve it.

Yahya also recommends a statement to add after every dua and the importance of doing so.

RAWHA

The Rawha takes place every Tuesday at 7:00pm EST. During the Rawha, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus will be covering the Hikam (Aphorisms) of Imam Ibn 'Ata'illah al-Iskandari.

MUSLIMS AND THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST - HABIB ALI AL-JIFRI

When the Prophet Muhammad migrated to Madina he was surprised to find the Jewish community fasting on a day known as ‘Ashura’, which fell in the Arabic (later Islamic) month of Muharram. During his life in Makkah, the Prophet used to observe a fast on this day. When he asked them why they fast on this day, the Jewish community replied that it was in celebration of Moses’ deliverance from Pharoah. The Prophet told his community that they too were believers in Moses and were deserving of commemorating the momentous occasion of his deliverance. Without questioning the authenticity of the date, despite the Hebrew calendar being different to the Arabic, the Prophet accepted their reason and instructed his community to observe the fast too. Acknowledging a sacred event is not related to the time of its happening as much as it is related to its meaning, which is to celebrate it in joy of God’s favours and love for the righteous.

Maintaining a connectedness to religious occasions that are intimately tied to sacred symbols is common in Islam and deeply connected to faith. Hajj, the annual pilgrimage, is the fifth pillar of Islam and replete with these meanings. For example, the circumambulation of a House built by Ibrahim and his son Ismail; the walking between Safa and Marwa where Hajar went on her search for water for her infant child; the throwing of stones in Mina where the devil tried to tempt Ibrahim away from sacrificing his son; and the ritual slaughter that marks the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son for God. This is the greatness of religious rituals; that they are forms imbued with profound meanings and not simply actions which are meant to be ritually repeated.

The Quran tell us: “And remind them of the days of God; indeed, in them are signs for those who are forbearing and grateful.” As we approach the occasion of Jesus Christ’s birth, we feel that we are confronted with a day from among the ‘days of God’. This day was distinguished by an immense miracle related to his birth. This birth was connected to meanings of peace that we are in dire need of today.

Yes, God made Jesus Christ a symbol of peace for this world.

Did the Quran not inform us of Christ’s words, “Peace was upon me the day I was born, and will be on me the day I shall die, and the day I am raised to life again.”? These words alone are sufficient enough as a reason for our joy on this noble occasion, irrespective of its exact date and the differing opinions that exist among Christian denominations. The birth of Jesus Christ is less about the precise date and more about the meaning embodied in his emergence into this world.

I offer my greetings to the Prophet Muhammad on the birth of Jesus Christ, who affectionately described the son of Mary as his brother and said of him, “I have the best right to Jesus son of Mary in this world and the next.”

Likewise, I offer my greetings to Muslims, Christians and humanity at large on this blessed occasion.

And I say to Jesus Christ: my master, the spirit of God and His word, peace be upon you the day you were born, the day you shall die and the day you will be raised to life again.
