The Women’s’ Studies Department at Al-Maqasid was founded to meet the increasing demand for accessible, firmly rooted Islamic education tailored specifically for women in the United States. Rooted in traditional Islamic scholarship and responsive to the unique needs of women, the department develops and oversees a variety of programs that support spiritual growth and intellectual enrichment. Through classes, workshops, and various programs, the Women’s Studies Department aims to provide women from various walks of life the opportunity to learn their faith from qualified female scholars in a welcoming and spiritually uplifting environment.

The Quest for Virtuous Character is a concise yet profound treatise on the virtues of noble character, its defining signs, and the traits that contradict it. Drawing from the works of esteemed scholars such as Imam al-Ghazali, it offers thoughtful reflections on embodying praiseworthy qualities, deeply rooted in Islamic teachings.
This class will be taught in Sayida Hafsa’s native Arabic and translated by Sayyida Nejma Davis.
It will be held three Saturdays each month, with the Wayfarers to God series taking place on the fourth Saturday, in sha’ Allah.

'Wayfarers to God: A Sister’s Series on Suluk' by Habib Ali Al-Jifri, facilitated by Sayyida Nejma Davis, serves as a comprehensive guide for all those on a journey of Spiritual Wayfaring or Suluk. Rooted in principles of self-reflection and sincere effort, this lecture series gently navigates the intricacies of understanding the nafs (ego) and the detrimental impact it can have. Habib Ali Al-Jifri sheds light on the path to liberating oneself from the nafs, delving into the exploration of base desires, evil inclinations, and diseases of the heart. His approach resonates deeply, permeating the soul and igniting a call to action.

A Weekly Ladies-Only Gathering for the Recitation of Qasida al-Burda.
Qasida al-Burda, composed by Imam al-Busiri, is a poem in praise of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which has gained acceptance throughout the Muslim world.
As always, children are welcome. Here are a few gentle reminders:
- Children must remain with their parents and stay inside the barn at all times.
- Girls aged 8 and older are encouraged to participate in the gathering.
- We kindly request no boys over the age of 8.
