In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate, All praise is for Allah, the Most High, and may His peace and blessings be upon our prophet, Muhammad, his family, and companions.

Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, a fatwa and research department has been started at Al-Maqasid seminary. This group will now be part of the department. All questions will be answered by Auzair Khilwati, who is a graduate of Dar Al-Mustafa..

One of the religious obligations upon every community is producing scholars in the locality who can provide answers to any religious questions the Muslims may have. Such an answer, referred to as a fatwa, is the clarification of the legal opinion held by Muslim scholars to a specific question. In an effort to fulfill this community obligation, Al-Maqasid will now be accepting questions and clarifying their rulings in Islam by relaying the opinions of the scholars or jurists. Questions can range from the validity of acts of worship to the permissibility of financial transactions, marriage and divorce issues, the permissibility of eating, drinking, or wearing specific things, and more. Unless otherwise stated, all answers are according to the Shafi madhab.

May Allah give us all sound understanding of this religion, make this group a means of benefit for the Muslims, and accept this humble endeavor.

LOVING THE BELOVED ﷺ

This weekly Majlis includes a recitation of the prophetic biography in poetry form followed by a counsel intended to connect the listener to the Prophet ﷺ and his teachings. The more we know about his life, character, and way, the more we will come to love and follow the one beloved to Allah.

Loving and Knowing Allah - Yahya Rhodus

The more we come to know Allah, the more our love for Him deepens. In turn, as our love for Allah grows, our desire to know Him better also intensifies. This reciprocal relationship between knowledge and love continually strengthens our bond with our Creator.

Allah says in the Quran: "Those who believe are stronger in love for Allah." (Quran 2:165)

Our Path to Divine Closeness Amjad Tarsin

One of the beautiful gifts that Allah has given us is the Sunnah and the example of the Best of Creation, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

By attaching ourselves to people of goodness, engaging in gatherings of righteousness, seeking sacred knowledge, and emulating those who follow the Sunnah of the Prophet, we align ourselves with a path that brings us closer to Allah. This inclination towards goodness and the company of the righteous is a sign that Allah intends to draw us nearer to Him.

The company we keep and the environments we immerse ourselves in significantly impact our spiritual journey. Surrounding ourselves with those who strive to uphold the teachings of Islam and the example of the Prophet ﷺ helps us to strengthen our faith, improve our character, and deepen our understanding of our purpose in life. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

"The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the seller of musk and the one who blows the blacksmith's bellows. So, as for the seller of musk, he would either give you some, or you buy some from him, or at least you smell its pleasant odor; and as for the one who blows the blacksmith's bellows, he either burns your clothes or you smell a repugnant smell." (Sahih al-Bukhari)

JUMU’A KHUTBA

The weekly Jumu'a, or Friday, Congregational prayer is live streamed from Al-Maqasid from 12:15pm-1:10pm.

Making Righteous Intentions - Amjad Tarsin

“Allah does not assist a person who intends good until he engages in it.”

In this incredibly beneficial khutba, Amjad Tarsin explains what are righteous intentions, their fundamental importance in the deen, and how to make them, providing support from the Quran, Hadith, and quotes from great Imams of Islam.

Amjad also relays the inspirational story of the frog and his efforts to help Prophet Ibrahim, alaihi as-salam, how to achieve Allah's enabling grace (tawfiq), and ends with a powerful Quranic dua that we should make regularly.

The Hand of the Prophet ﷺ

The Prophets renewed the covenants that had been made between the creation and the Creator. Then the Seal of the Prophets ﷺ came, and in his renewal, he opened a vast door to people (that had not been opened previously), because no one has a greater station in God’s sight than him. The noblest person in creation renewed the covenant between the creation and the Creator. The most honourable created being renewed the covenant of the Most Generous Creator. He left us on a clear path; he left us with light and clarity; he left us with guidance, he left us with a connection; he left us in a state of witnessing; he left us with direct knowledge; he left us in a state of absolute certainty built upon realisation, witnessing and knowledge. May Allah give him on our behalf the best reward that any Prophet or Messenger has been given on behalf of their nation.

God informs us of the greatness of His Beloved’s renewal of His covenants when He addresses him directly in His Book: Those who pledge loyalty to you are actually pledging loyalty to God Himself. So great is the hand of my beloved Muhammad ﷺ ! So lofty is his station in the sight of His Lord! The Companions pledged allegiance holding that hand made of flesh. This is how it appears, but Allah tells us that the true meaning is “you have pledged allegiance to Me,” because My care and My concern are with that hand, my love is with and for that hand, My pleasure is with that hand: Allah was pleased with the believers when they swore allegiance to you under the tree. Allah’s pleasure is with that pure hand: Those who pledge loyalty to you are actually pledging loyalty to Allah Himself– Allah’s hand is placed on theirs. Whoever wants Allah’s hand to be with them should put their hand out to our Master Muhammad’s hand.

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)
