Conquering Lower Desires - yahya rhodus
“True religion means that we confront ourselves, because it is by consensus of the scholars of the science of ihsan, the biggest veil between us and Allah, jalla jalaluhu, is our own nafs. We are our worst enemies.”
Numerous verses in the Quran warn of the danger of following one’s lower desires (hawa) and the tragic consequences of doing so both in this world and the next. In this khutba, Yahya Rhodus explains the necessity of understanding the human condition and its inclination to follow its lower desires. He also provides practical steps on how to combat these desires when they arise.
Yahya ends with the benefits of fasting 6 days of Shawwal as the month of Ramadan ends and the new month begins.
