May Allah grant him strength, wisdom, and steadfastness on this journey, and may He shower him with His mercy, forgiveness, and blessings in this life and the Hereafter.
﷽
Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,
We are delighted to invite you to our upcoming Al-Maqasid Weekend Retreat, taking place from February 14–16, titled: On Marvels of the Heart—a study of Book 21 of Imam al-Ghazali’s masterpiece, Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din (Revival of the Religious Sciences).
In The Marvels of the Heart, Imam al-Ghazali provides a profound exploration of the heart’s pivotal role in human existence. He examines its four distinct levels, its relationship to the spirit (ruh), ego (nafs), and intellect (‘aql), and its many remarkable qualities. Through vivid analogies—such as the heart’s resemblance to a mirror—he unravels how the heart is influenced by external forces and how it shapes our actions, guiding us toward either goodness or misguidance.
This retreat will, Insh’Allah, be an opportunity to delve deeply into the inner workings of the heart, its transformative potential, and the process of purifying it to cultivate a closer connection to Allah ﷻ.

Making the Most of Shaban - Alaudeen Us’Sutteri
'[Shaban] is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting."'
As we begin the month of Shaban, which is between Rajab and Ramadan, Shaykh Alaudeen reminds us of the special opportunities for worship that this month provides for believers, including the strong sunnah of fasting during this month and the benefits of bringing to life the night of Mid-Sha’ban, known in Arabic as Laylat al-Nisf min Sha’ban. For example,
“There are five nights on which dua is not rejected: the first night of Rajab, the Night of Mid-Sha’ban, Thursday night, the night before Eid al-Fitr and the night before Eid al-Nahr(al- Adha).“
