Of all the pillars of Islam, fasting possesses the peculiar characteristic of being related to Allah, exalted is He.

The Prophet, may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him, said: 'Upon the advent of the month of Ramadan, the gates of paradise are opened up, those of hell-fire shut down, and the demons are chained.'
