Weekend Retreats - Iḥyā’ ‘Ulūm al-Dīn
The Revival of the Religious Sciences (Iḥyāʾ ʿulūm al-dīn) is widely regarded as one of the greatest works on Muslim spirituality and perhaps the most widely read text in the Muslim world after the Qurʾān.
The work is divided into four parts, each comprising ten chapters. The first part addresses knowledge and the essentials of faith, such as ritual purity, prayer, charity, fasting, pilgrimage, and the recitation of the Qurʾān. The second part focuses on societal matters, including the etiquette of eating, marriage, earning a livelihood, and friendship. The third and fourth parts delve into the inner life of the soul, first exploring the vices that individuals must overcome, and then the virtues they must cultivate.
