The Quest for Virtuous Character is a concise yet profound treatise on the virtues of noble character, its defining signs, and the traits that contradict it. Drawing from the works of esteemed scholars such as Imam al-Ghazali, it offers thoughtful reflections on embodying praiseworthy qualities, deeply rooted in Islamic teachings.

This work was authored by Habib Muhammad al-Haddar (may Allah have mercy on him), a distinguished scholar, spiritual guide, and saint from the noble lineage of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Renowned for his profound knowledge, wisdom, and piety, he was a shining light of Islamic scholarship and an exemplar of noble character. Habib Muhammad devoted his life to guiding people to Allah, nurturing future Muslim scholars, and sharing timeless wisdom.

The Quest for Virtuous Character was taught by Habib Muhammad al-Haddar to his daughter, Hababa Nur, who later passed it on to our esteemed teacher, Sayyida Hafsa Ba-Alawi.

This class will be taught in Sayyida Hafsa’s native Arabic and translated by Sayyida Nejma Davis.

It will be held three Saturdays each month, with the Wayfarers to God series taking place on the fourth Saturday, in sha’ Allah.

LOVING THE BELOVED ﷺ

This weekly Majlis includes a recitation of the prophetic biography in poetry form followed by a counsel intended to connect the listener to the Prophet ﷺ and his teachings. The more we know about his life, character, and way, the more we will come to love and follow the one beloved to Allah.

Allah's Praise of His Messenger in Revelation - Amjad Tarsin

"The Divine has further publicized his attributes in the revealed scriptures and has clearly elucidated them to us." - The Resplendent Illumination | Habib Umar Bin Hafiz

Allah Himself praises and describes the noble traits of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Quran and other scriptures. These divine descriptions serve as a guide for humanity, offering clarity and inspiration to emulate the most perfect example of character and virtue. The Prophet ﷺ was not an unfamiliar figure to those with prior scriptures; he was foretold and described in detail. Historical records show that scholars and devout followers of earlier revelations recognized his qualities, fulfilling their scriptures' prophecies. As Allah reveals in the Quran: "They recognized him as they recognize their own sons." (Quran, 2:146).

Drawing Near to the Beloved - Yusuf Weltch

Yusuf Weltch speaks about the timeless beauty of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ character, focusing on how his unmatched humility, patience, and grace provide a roadmap for spiritual closeness.

"The most beloved to me and the closest to me on the Day of Judgment are those of you with the most beautiful character." (Tirmidhi)

Through these teachings, we examine traits to cultivate—such as quickness to forgive, patience in adversity, and receptiveness to advice—and those to avoid, like arrogance and quickness to anger. Every interaction becomes an opportunity for self-diagnosis, helping us align our hearts more closely with the Prophet’s ﷺ luminous example.

The Path to Allah Through the Beloved Messenger ﷺ - Alaudeen Us'Sutteri

We are reminded of the immense value of gatherings in remembrance of Allah. Such assemblies are honored in the highest heavens, as mentioned in the hadith: "Allah has angels who roam the roads seeking those who remember Him. When they find people remembering Allah, they call to one another and encompass them in layers until the lowest heaven." (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6408)

These gatherings are a means to understand our ultimate purpose: knowing Allah and seeking Him through the noble example of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ stands as the sole guide and intercessor, connecting us to Allah and bridging the gap between our imperfections and divine acceptance. Allah says: "Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often." (Quran, 33:21)

Through the Prophet ﷺ, we learn to purify ourselves and embody beautiful characteristics, for he is the one about whom Allah declared, "And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." (Quran, 21:107)

JUMU’A KHUTBA

The weekly Jumu'a, or Friday, Congregational prayer is live streamed from Al-Maqasid from 12:15pm-1:10pm.

Understanding the Nature of This World  - Amjad Tarsin

“We only fear Allah so everything in creation, He subjugates it to us. But because you fear worldly things, you’re subjugated to worldly things.”

In this khutba, Amjad Tarsin relates inspiring stories of Companions and pious predecessors to explain the necessity of understanding the reality of this world and the reality of what awaits us in the Hereafter. He puts this discussion in context with respect to the horrific injustices facing many Muslims today.

Amjad also explains why the world belongs to those who have forsaken it.
