ANNOUNCING AL-MAQASID FATWA & RESEARCH DEPARTMENT
One of the religious obligations upon every community is producing scholars in the locality who can provide answers to any religious questions the Muslims may have. Such an answer, referred to as a fatwa, is the clarification of the legal opinion held by Muslim scholars to a specific question.
In an effort to fulfill this community obligation, Al-Maqasid will now be accepting questions and clarifying their rulings in Islam by relaying the opinions of the scholars or jurists. Questions can range from the validity of acts of worship to the permissibility of financial transactions, marriage and divorce issues, the permissibility of eating, drinking, or wearing specific things, and more.
We ask Allah, the Most High, for Tawfiq in fulfilling this important duty and serving the needs of the Muslim community with excellence.
Alhamdulillah, last week we completed of the reading of Sahih al-Bukhari with Shaykh Samer Al-Nass, which took place from August 20-30.
During these blessed days, attendees completed a reading of the book with Shaykh Samer Al-Nass, an internationally renowned scholar from Damascus, Syria, whose profound knowledge and dedication to the Islamic sciences deeply enriched the experience.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and participated, as well as those who intended to join us but could not. Your presence and sincere intentions made this gathering a source of abundant blessings and joy. May Allah accept from all of us and continue to guide us in our pursuit of knowledge and devotion.
We are excited to announce our upcoming Weekend Retreat, which will be held on October 18-20 titled:
On Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil, a study of Book 19 of Imam al-Ghazali’s masterpiece Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din (Revival of the Religious Sciences).
According to Imam Al-Ghazali, enjoining good and forbidding evil is an obligation and crucial to fulfilling the mission of the prophets sent by Allah Ta’ala. If knowledge of it were discarded and its practice neglected, prophethood would be unnecessary, religion would disappear, weakness would reign, and ignorance would prevail. Its centrality to the deen is evident in the Quran, Hadith, statements of the pious predecessors, and in the general consensus of the Umma. For example, Allah Ta’ala tells us:
Let there be a group among you who call ‘others’ to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil—it is they who will be successful.
[3:104]
The believers, both men and women, are guardians of one another: They encourage good and forbid evil…[9:71]
You are the best community ever raised for humanity—you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in God…[3:110]
In Imam al-Ghazali’s On Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil, he discusses its four pillars, objectional matters in familiar daily activities (such as visiting mosques and marketplaces), the obligation to call to Allah, and how to advise a ruler.
We welcome you to join us in exploring this often neglected and misapplied obligation in what we pray will be a weekend filled with abundant blessings as we acquire knowledge and spend time in devotion together.

MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS
The commemoration of the birth of Allah’s Beloved ﷺ and his emergence into the world is upon us. And we truly rejoice in commemorating the month of his birth.
When the mention of his migration comes, we rejoice. When the mention of his birth comes, we rejoice. When the mention of his Night Journey and Ascension comes, we rejoice. And when the mention of his Prophethood and receiving revelation comes, we rejoice.
And we will live rejoicing at him ﷺ, certain that this is part of the very essence of tawhid, from the very essence of believing in Allah, and from the reality of being true with Allah. And it is among the greatest of provisions for the meeting with the All-Merciful ﷻ, and among the strongest means by which we can gain a position under the Banner of Praise.

Connecting Our Hearts to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - Yahya Rhodus
“The more you immerse yourself in learning this blessed Deen and study with true scholars, the more you come to understand how central the Messenger of Allah is to it.”
His life and teachings are not just a part of Islam; they are the foundation upon which it stands. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the living example of how to embody the teachings of the Quran. As Allah says in the Quran, “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah, you have a good example for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and who remembers Allah often” (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:21).
The Miracles of Islam - Auzair Khilwati
“One of the miracles of this religion is its own preservation.”
The Prophet said, “May Allah brighten the face of a person who hears something from us and conveys it as he heard it, for perhaps the one to whom it is conveyed may understand it better than the one who heard it.”’ (Sunan Abi Dawud)
Gatherings of Remembrance - Imam M ElFarooqui
“If a person has come to a gathering of remembrance, it is because Allah has already accepted their remembrance; that is why they are there.”
These gatherings are places where hearts find solace, and souls are nourished through the remembrance of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he said:
“No group of people gathers to remember Allah except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy envelops them, the angels surround them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him.” (Muslim)
