UPCOMING PROGRAMS

We are excited to announce our upcoming Weekend Retreat, which will be held on October 18-20 titled: On Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil, a study of Book 19 of Imam al-Ghazali’s masterpiece Ihya’ ‘Ulum al-Din (Revival of the Religious Sciences).

According to Imam Al-Ghazali, enjoining good and forbidding evil is an obligation and crucial to fulfilling the mission of the prophets sent by Allah Ta’ala. If knowledge of it were discarded and its practice neglected, prophethood would be unnecessary, religion would disappear, weakness would reign, and ignorance would prevail. Its centrality to the deen is evident in the Quran, Hadith, statements of the pious predecessors, and in the general consensus of the Umma. For example, Allah Ta’ala tells us:

Let there be a group among you who call ‘others’ to goodness, encourage what is good, and forbid what is evil—it is they who will be successful.
[3:104]

The believers, both men and women, are guardians of one another: They encourage good and forbid evil…[9:71]

You are the best community ever raised for humanity—you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in God…[3:110]

In Imam al-Ghazali’s On Enjoining Good and Forbidding Evil, he discusses its four pillars, objectional matters in familiar daily activities (such as visiting mosques and marketplaces), the obligation to call to Allah, and how to advise a ruler.

We welcome you to join us in exploring this often neglected and misapplied obligation in what we pray will be a weekend filled with abundant blessings as we acquire knowledge and spend time in devotion together.

MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

وأنت لما ولدت أشرقت الأرض وضاءت بنورك الأفق
And when you were born, the earth lit up, and the horizons were filled with your light.

"Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and peace." (Quran 33:56)

What obligations does a Muslim have towards the month of Rabi al Awwal? - Habib Umar bin Hafiz

Allah the al-Mighty has chosen the month of Rabi al Awwal for the birth of his prophet our master Muhammad ﷺ. And this alone is enough for a believer to realise that he must reestablish the meanings of believing in him and upholding him within himself. And he must reflect upon his relationship with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. That he expresses the utmost happiness with the birth of his Prophet ﷺ and his arrival to this world.

The first connection with him in this world is through his blessed birth..it was the beginning of a life of which Allah swore by in the Quran saying: ((By your life! (O' Muhammad) they are still dwelling in there drunkenness))
And this blessed life began when his mother delivered him. So we know it is a glorified life by the glorification of Allah exalted be Him in the Quran.

Hence, a believer must remind himself of the birth of the chosen one ﷺ in likes of this month. And he restablishes within himself that strong connection with the chosen one through having faith, believing, loving, and following him ﷺ. And he expresses this connection with all permissible expressions, such as gathering in remembrance of Allah, and gathering ones family to read the Sirah and story of his birth (mawlid) and by feeding people as well with whatever one can, and other means of expression of ones following of the chosen one ﷺ and ones happiness with him ﷺ.

Also it has been narrated in the Sunnah (hadith) that singing Poetry in praise of him is an act of gaining closeness to Allah exalted be He. And the best of the companions and the generations that followed them by excellent example until this very day have all gained closeness to Allah by the means of praising our master Muhammad ﷺ, whom Allah Himself has praised and honoured. By knowing all of this its obligatory upon every believer, every Monday generally and in Rabi al Awwal specifically to have good remembrance of this great blessing from Allah, the appearance and birth of the chosen one ﷺ.

LOVING THE BELOVED ﷺ

This weekly Majlis includes a recitation of the prophetic biography in poetry form followed by a counsel intended to connect the listener to the Prophet ﷺ and his teachings. The more we know about his life, character, and way, the more we will come to love and follow the one beloved to Allah.

The Month of Rabi' al-Awwal - Auzair Khilwati

The month of Rabi' al-Awwal marks the blessed birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This sacred month provides us with a unique opportunity to deepen our love for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

In this month, we reflect on the life and teachings of the Prophet ﷺ, whose guidance illuminates the path to righteousness. His exemplary character and unwavering devotion to Allah serve as a beacon of light for us. By following his Sunnah, we draw closer to Allah and embrace the values that define a life lived in faith.

Allah says in the Quran:

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If you ˹sincerely˺ love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Quran 3:31)

The Legacy of the Messenger of Allah - Ismail Ali

"It's one thing to read about scholars and men of Allah in books, but it's an entirely different experience to be in their presence.”

“The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets.” (At-Tirmidhi).

Ismail reflects on his recent journeys to the blessed lands of Tarim and Jordan, where he was fortunate to be in the company of the Haba'ib and the esteemed teachers of our teachers. These experiences are profound, not merely because of the places visited, but because of the presence of righteous scholars and the inheritors of prophetic knowledge.

Being in the company of such individuals is a rare blessing, as it allows one to witness firsthand the embodiment of prophetic character and wisdom. Allah mentions in the Quran:

“And keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and evening, seeking His face.” (Surah Al-Kahf, 18:28).
